How to Be a Moon, book and built-in study guide, draws analogies from the moon to explain how we’re meant to live as followers of God. We’ve been called out of darkness to bring light and hope to a broken world. But along the way, we confuse the light we’re shining as an indicator of our worth. We get tripped up by insecurity and comparison, wondering if we really matter to God or the world we’re serving. But a moon offers a countercultural way to love God and others. To be a moon is to radically redefine our identity apart from achievement or comparison. Our job isn’t to prove anything to God, but to accept the proof of His love and worth for us. Our mission isn’t to accomplish more, but to allow more of God to be reflected in us. Only then can He use us to powerfully illuminate our generation and change the world.I invite you on a journey to:
- Rest in God’s presence instead of striving for significance.
- Embrace God as a collaborator instead of a critic.
- Ditch the traps of envy and pride and enjoy investing in others.
- Walk boldly into the plans God designed you for.
Praise for How to Be a Moon
“Though I never thought of it quite this way before, I have decided that I desperately want to be a moon! Stars shine brightly with great fanfare, but moons are confident and content to reflect light from elsewhere. So, after an almost-lifetime of striving to shine with success, I am grateful to simply reflect God’s light by living with significance, serenity and strength. Who knew millennial author Carrye Burr would help me on this path with her new book How to Be A Moon? Offering practical advice for how to 1. Embrace your worth, 2. Reflect God, and 3. Light up your generation, she fills the pages with authentic stories learned on the journey. Scripture comes alive in the teaching with synopses at the end of each chapter containing ‘Star Lies’ and ‘Moon Truths.’ Discussion questions also make it a great book group choice for any age, but especially those who are just starting the whole “adulting” process full of pressures and struggle. ‘Our lives, our significance, our very being are loaned to us for such a time as this, to fulfill God’s purpose for us in our generation. The best we can do with the breath God has given is to breathe it back out in praise. The greatest glory we can experience here or in eternity is the sheer luminescence of God Himself.’ Great wisdom for any season.”
-Lucinda Secrest McDowell, author of Ordinary Graces
This book came at a perfect time in life, such that every chapter hit home in a powerful way. With great insight (and wit!), Carrye weaves Scripture and personal experiences together in a way that truly helped me evaluate and realign how I live (particularly on the inside!) in light of God’s Truth. This book was a great heart-check for me, and left me both convicted and empowered–as well as often laughing out loud. I highly recommend this book to anyone wrestling with how to live for God’s glory!

“Before I read this book, I wouldn’t have really thought that I had too much of a problem with striving for significance, but with every page I could see more and more how much I actually did relate. I had to stop at least once or twice per chapter to share a quote on social media because there was so much that really spoke to me. The author does an incredible job of truly fleshing out this analogy with life-impacting content, while also making it super relatable with humor and real-life stories. A must read! “

Is your faith more like a script or an experiment? Knowing all the right words and actions might make us feel good at first, but does it have any power to change real life? Is it big enough for broken people, a deeper purpose, suffering and uncertainty?
What if all of the answers we know so well are keeping us from really experiencing the God we claim to follow?
“Gray Faith” is the story of the questions and struggles that taught one pastor’s daughter to trade in “good Christianity” for something messy but genuine. It’s an invitation to bring your own questions and imperfect stories and find that you aren’t alone.
It’s OK for faith to be a journey where we learn a little at a time and still make mistakes. It’s OK to ditch the script and find God in the questions.
Praise for Gray Faith
Gray Faith is a book for anyone and everyone!! I think people can be intimidated by christian authors and find many of them unrelatable. Not the case here, so down to earth, genuine and raw. Gray Faith shows us that it’s ok to have questions, to get stuck, be confused, even doubtful. Sometimes we connect with God the most as we wrestle through those things.
-Jackie L.
I can sum it up this way; you don’t have to be someone who was raised in the church, or even a Christian to read & relate to ‘Gray Faith’. I very HIGHLY recommend this book!!!
Carrye writes with honesty, humor, and insight. Her story is relatable and she challenges her readers to reflect on their own thinking and the “why” behind their actions and beliefs. This book inspires me to think with discernment and intentionality. It is a great book for discussing with friends or a small group!
