Response to Kate Spade’s “Love Letters”
You know how youtube makes you watch those ads? Of course you know. I usually have my finger poised to click the “skip” button like a trigger-happy Annie Oakley. But this Kate Spade ad made me stop. Each of the women in this video were asked, on the spot it seems, to speak a love letter to themselves. You can see the outcome for yourself:
These are all beautiful, strong women. And I admire their courage to share their words in this way. Yet I couldn’t help feeling like there was something missing. Do we really believe we’re enough? Do we really believe that our value goes beyond our skin, our clothes, or doing the best we can? Where does our value lie and can we be brave enough to own all that worth? So here’s my attempt…what I might say to myself if that camera were pointed at me.
What about you? What would you say to yourself? What would you say to your daughter or friend or brother? There’s something powerfully freeing about owning our worth and walking in purpose, ON purpose.
You are beautiful. You are worthy. And you matter just as you are because God says so. Let’s go live like it because people who know their worth are contagious. (And this world needs to know its worth.)
Creative. Beautiful. Inspiring. Brave. Powerful.
Oh and your video was great too.
